Setting up a wireless network is relatively easy. Before anything else, you have to make sure that the wireless router you will get is compatible with your internet connection. You can contact your internet provider for this query. 192.168.1.1
Also, make your computers wireless ready. The latest computers can already be connected to a wireless network. Most laptops are but you might need to check your desktop if it is okay. If it is not, you can always install wireless card on your desktop or just get Ethernet cable and connect it to the router. Either way, connection is still possible.
Once all the things needed are ready, do the following steps:
Step 1: Set your router up close to you internet adapter or modem. If you are using DSL connection, hook up an Ethernet cable to the modem and the back port of the router. For those using wireless internet adapters which is the case for those who have WiFi access, just hook up the adapter at the WAN port found also at the back part of the router.
Step 2: Plug the router in power source and then open your computer to configure the settings of the device. Once your computer has already booted up, insert the disc that comes with the router package and run it. This is the start-up wizard. It will help you configure the settings through a step by step procedure.
Step 3: Open our web browser and key in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar at the upper part of the browser and press enter key. It will automatically ask for a password and username. Check you manual for the right password and username. Most of the routers use the default ones which is “admin” for the username and “password” for the password.
Step 4: Once you have already successfully logged on, click “Security Settings”. Since you are using wireless connection, it is imperative that you keep it as secure as possible. The new routers today have WPA encrypted settings already but you can make security settings a lot tighter. Change your password and then change SSID name. Come up with a name you are not likely to forget. This prevents hackers from entering your system. Once you have already set up security features accordingly, click “save” and then “apply” and then log off router settings. Now you are ready to use your secure wireless connection.
